Heather demonstrates many talents as a yoga therapist. She has a warm, welcoming personality that invites you to share “where you are at” in your physical and emotional challenge. One of Heather’s strengths is her ability to assess an individual’s physical needs and provide helpful accommodations throughout the class, often proposing adjustments “on the spot”. For example, the creative use of chairs in class has allowed me to be able to hold a posture without over fatiguing or straining, while enjoying the benefits of the posture and feeling inclusive in the class. Heather is able to support the needs of each individual client and provide challenges for their journey on the yoga mat, whatever that may unfurl. When in yoga class with Heather, she guides us through our practice as though we’re the only person in the room. Her approach is creative in that she allows us to be flexible (pun intended!!) in our approach to each pose and movement based on our own ability. She models variations to postures and movement to ensure everyone in class can get benefit from a pose comfortably while offering beginner and advanced level modifications…hence the individual approach. And she does this without judgement from herself and creates a judgement-free environment as a result.
